Market Update (September 2021)

The market remains stable in terms of prices, especially when it comes to Spanish almonds.

On the part of the American almond, in recent weeks, it has been losing a penny over the days, speaking of Std 5% and sizes lower than 25/27 fundamentally, that is, small sizes. The big ones for their part remain totally stable.

In this way, the Std 5% (speaking of a new crop) is priced at around $2.40/lb, with sizes ranging from 25/27 to 36/40 with a typical differential compared to the Std 5%. In other words, there has been a fall of $0.10/lb, which in € has not been noticed as much, due to the currency change that has been cushioning it. This drop in prices has occurred in a very gradual way and the seller is having a hard time doing it, there is still no rain or forecasts of them. The buyer, for his part, continues with a low buying intensity, which continues to give rise to little activity despite the dates we are in.

Next October 12 we have shipment results for the month of September. It will be important not only to see the shipments, affected in one way or another by the logistics delays and the large sales made from behind, but it will also be important to see the monthly sales, future sales (both do not seem to be very good) and the harvest entrance, among other things. Judging from the perceived lack of activity, the overall figures will not be very bullish, perhaps more on the conservative / bearish side. But we will find out in a few days.

Here are some tables and graphs that show the reference price, its monthly evolution and something more general.

On the part of the Spanish almond, the situation is very stable. The export is quite stopped not only for the same reason as in the American almond, an apparently covered buyer appears to a great extent and with a low need to stock up, but also because there are prices that the seller finds it difficult to assume. In fact, it seems that the domestic market operates at prices higher than those for export.

For this reason, activity is low, not only on the buyer side, but also on the seller side. The shelled almond we see that it moves at levels that do not coincide with the grain and this drowns the seller. Result, low offer.

Therefore, if you join a seller who is not excessively willing to sell with a buyer who is not as active as he should be on these dates or at prices that do not match, the result is the low activity we are talking about.

The prices, sustained as we have said by the domestic market, remain the same as a few weeks ago, between 4.50 €/kg - 4.60 €/kg depending on whether it is ‘comuna’, a single variety or ‘Guara’.

Varieties such as ‘larguetas’,’marconas’ or similar, few operations are carried out and they are quite disappeared.

The organic almond is similar, the shell is at levels that the grain, according to these levels, costs a lot to place. To the buyer, pay prices above €9.30€/9.40/kg as we speak today (reference to a comuna propietario), it is done by the one who is strictly needy and because they have no other choice.

In conclusion we will say that the market is quite calm for the dates that we are with stable prices in Spanish and somewhat bearish in American. We will see in the next few days if there is any change.

We also share some graphs of price evolution.
