These figures show that the 2025 harvest, which is very similar to that of 2024 in terms of volume, ends with a very similar surplus but at a higher average price.

Sales of the new vintage are outperforming last year’s figures despite the sharp fall in prices and the exceptionally high level of activity seen in July last year.

American sellers are in a very comfortable position. The 25th crop is ending with a similar surplus (over 500 Mlbs), half of which has already been sold. Sales of the new crop have improved significantly, particularly with the sale of husks for Diwali. This explains the strength of prices in recent weeks and why they have remained unaffected by the low level of buying activity, particularly from Europe.

These shipments do not suggest any major changes in the market. There have been no surprises whatsoever, and prices had already begun to rise in anticipation of these figures several days ago. The situation is unlikely to change significantly, particularly until sellers turn their attention to the Ramadan and Christmas markets, when the balance between buyers and sellers will reach a critical point; depending on the position of either side, prices may be affected. Although, following the release of these figures, there will likely be a move to give prices a boost, at least initially.
